When I was at the grocery store, I saw Pierogi, so many choices. I have a friend who gets in the mood for them. It’s interesting, because they are like Italian ravioli. Then, I thought, you’ve got the Asian pot stickers. All a little different, but the same idea with a different name.
Do you have a preference for any of these? I wonder, do the Germans/Austrians have something like ravioli or pierogi? I know they make great dumplings.
Thinking of dumplings, I’m getting in the mood for Matzo Ball soup now!

Yummy. I was raised on Pierogi and have my German Canadian mother’s recipe. I love potato and onion, and potato and cheese. I was delighted to find some at a grocery store near me here in Spain. Happy days. The best comfort food ever.

Pasta is of European origin, Pierogis are Slavic in origin. One goes with wine. The other with Vodka. There. I fixed it.

Every culture has a variation of a dumpling. I think it’s the one food that is truly universal.

I need to try pierogis again. I think I have tried once, decades ago.
I can’t think of anything similar in Brazil.

I definitely eat more rice than pasta. At my home in Brazil there is white rice every day, even when there is pasta.

Interesting to hear how different countries eat. I don’t know much about Brazil, did not realize you ate a lot of rice. I’ll have to look up Brazilian food.

Pierogi are nice, they are normally cooked/sautéed in butter and then you put sour cream on top. The fillings are different from Italian fillings.

Funny thing, as a kid our family business was making ravioli. My grandfather started the business, but he never ate them. I ate with him, so I never developed a taste for them either. Just give me a good plate of spaghetti.

How nice! My mother is Italian, never made her own pasta, and never made ravioli or tortellini. We were spaghetti people too. The basics. I did like the pastina soup. A favorite.
