You are beautiful… Have you been told this before?
Imagine my day… pouring rain, on freeway, tire pressure light goes on, panic, stopped at two gas stations, air pressure machines not working, no umbrella, sopping wet, frustrated, worried…
Stopped at third gas station… a nice man asked if I needed help. He told me of a tire place around the corner… as I was about to leave, with sincerity, still looking me in the eye, he said, “You are beautiful!”
A Guardian Angel moment… I was caught off guard. I looked like the dog in the photo.
One side of my brain was saying, “Come on, look at you, such a mess, how could he say you are beautiful?”
The other side of my brain was grinning, “Look at you, even with no makeup, sopping wet, someone thinks, you are beautiful!”
I thanked him. His words have stayed with me.
As I drove off, smiling / puzzled, I thought, “Have I ever been told I was BEAUTIFUL?”
No, I have not. Sure, if I was dressed up going to a party, someone “might” have said, “You LOOK beautiful tonight, but not you ARE beautiful.” I thought about the difference in these words.
So, here is to a Guardian Angel type of moment. The Universe sending me a sweet message out of the blue.
Bucket List – Someone has said, “I’m beautiful!” Done – feels good, especially coming from a stranger, no prompting. We should all be told we are beautiful, once in our lifetime.
PAY IT FORWARD… Now, I will have to do the same for someone else. Give someone a compliment. It warms our hearts, it makes us feel good.
Have a wonderful weekend!

How special!!

As a guy, I have been reluctant to make compliments to a woman on her appearance for fear of coming across as creepy. Except for my wife, of course. Maybe that’s just from too many years in offices where we all learned to be careful and avoid making comments that could be taken as inappropriate. But maybe that no longer applies now that I am officially of retirement age. Old guys can get away with a lot. 🙂

Hi JP, you are right. Sometimes I think it is an American thing, I mean about a man making a compliment and a woman being suspicious. In Europe, men will give a compliment and nothing is thought of it. They were nice, they gave a compliment, done. LOL – you are also right about being older, at our age, we can give a compliment and we are now being “just nice.” I guess it depends on what “type” of compliment too. So, here’s to our age and having freedom to say what we want. 😉

Yes, always nice when something like this happens. Renewed faith in the “goodness” that surrounds us.

What a nice and unexpeted moment! I think this person has a good sense of when a compliment is appropriate (as well as needed). Not for a second did I think his intentions were anything but sincere. Thanks for sharing.

That was so heartwarming. I’ve been called beautiful a few times when I was younger, (the very first words my first year university boyfriend said to me, but then he was quite drunk!) but we don’t hear that very often when we get older. Then the best you can hope for, is “Your hair looks good, or “you look nice”. One of my first post-op memories after my heart surgery was the OR nurse telling me I had really good skin. Nice to hear when I hadn’t a bit of makeup on, (not even mascara) especially in those bright fluorescent OR lights! And one of the nursing staff, called me Ms. Lovely when I was doing my post op walk one day – just spontaneously, she wasn’t my nurse. I don’t know maybe they’re told to compliment the patients to make them feel better, but it certainly made my day, although I admit I might have been younger and less wrinkled than their average patient. I shall try and remember to pay it forward. I wonder if men ever get complimented, and what they think about it?

A lovely message, Joni. I love that they folks in the Hospital were noticing you. YES, for sure, men like to be complimented too. We all do. Makes us feel good, we stand taller, don’t we. 😉

I had excellent care in the cardiac unit, but when I got home I couldn’t get any aftercare, but partly that was because it was Christmas.
We usually praise men for things they have done for us, or a job well done, but maybe no one compliments them otherwise? Probably a blog in that topic sometime….
