Growing up by Lake Michigan, we always had fun playing with Rough Horsetail. Of course, back then I didn’t know what it was called. I just had fun taking it apart and putting it back together in different ways.
I completely forgot about it until this weekend when friends pointed it out. LOOK, they said, “This plant comes apart and you can put it back together again!”
We all laughed, I told them of my childhood and we had fun playing with them.
This YouTube video gives information on horsetail.
If you are at a beach and you, your friends and/or kids are bored. Find some rough horsetail and have some fun! So many different combinations you can build.
Time for the beach. 🏖️

I had no idea these existed. Maybe I should plant them in my yard and let them displace the lawn?

Well, but they are TALL, would you want that? It would become a jungle. LOL Good for dogs / cats to have fun going through them.

We had horsetails in Washington state, but I didn’t know you could take them apart and put them back together. We used them to help with nettle stings.

That’s interesting! I just Googled nettle… that’s a painful plant!

My mom told us if we got stung that breaking open a horsetail and putting it on the sting would help.

When we were kids we liked popping them apart. Never thought to reconnect them again, though!

LOL – it is kind of addictive to keep pulling them apart.

Definitely a Midwestern thing. I had never heard of this plant until your post. Interesting… and creative! Leave it to children to make a game of it 🙂

Never heard of it either, and I watched the video, but you can take it apart and reassemble it? It looks like bamboo stalks?
