November, Writing month – NaNoWriMo -> Love it or Hate it?

Day 1–> November 1st —> NaNoWriMo starts!

Are you IN or OUT? People have different opinions on this. If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, you can visit the website for details. Basically, every year for the month of November you challenge yourself to write a novel of 50,000 words.

Some people like this structure and sense of writing community. Others feel like they are being handcuffed and their creativity goes out the window. Suddenly no words, no ideas come to them.

I have mixed emotions about it. Do I need to put more pressure on myself for a month? I don’t think so. So, this year, I’ll be monitoring some conversations, but going solo. Who knows, I might just hit 50K!

Are you participating? Do you find value in this? Met other writers?

      1. Yes, a while ago. It wasn’t a good group. I’ve also taken critique classes that last 8 -10 weeks. Those are beneficial, where we review each others work every week, but they don’t happen that often. I thought those were PERFECT.

  1. I agree with your other commenters in that some version of NaNoWriMo would work for me… just not NaNoWriMo itself. Wrong time of year with the upcoming holidays already putting demands on my time. Not personal enough (vs. writing groups, for instance). But there’s something to be said for a daily commitment and a deadline. I’d be interested to see what I could do with say, a two-hour writing block every day for a month. Until I take that plunge however, I won’t be writing America’s next bestseller 😉

    1. I asked myself sometimes if the right time would present itself would I finish my book finally?

It’s never the right time for me.

A joined NaNoWriMo this year and gave myself 500 word daily goal. Which is practically nothing.

But it was enough to encourage me to write 500 words a day… 🤷‍♀️

  2. I love and hate it at the same time. Writing whatever pops into my head is my go-to but my book which I started 3 years ago is still not finished so I figured maybe this time NaNoWriMo will help me complete it. I made very tiny goals that were easy to meet even on the busiest days and I started off doing well for the first couple of days. So far. 😊

    1. That’s what writing is about. Having a goal every day. Isn’t that why we Blog. It gives us a creative writing outlet. Proud of you for writing these past few days. I feel guilty. I need to get back to “my story” too. It’s on my mind!! Thanks for sharing.
