Have you heard of the Eclipse Hot Springs Hair Freezing Contest in Yukon? It’s been taking place yearly since 2011. They have different categories you can win, ie best female, best male, most creative, best group, etc. Each winning category receives $2,000, not bad for sitting in warm water, dunking your head, pulling head out, sculpting hair and having photo taken. Done!

Visit the site and you’ll see so many fabulous frozen hair styles. Don’t worry, as soon as you dunk your head back into the water, the freezing hair melts. So your hair does not break into a million tiny pieces.
The site doesn’t have details on timing for this. However, I was reading in past articles that photo taking takes place in February. Last year they said with warming temperatures, it was becoming hard to find the right cold days for hair to set. Maybe that’s why the website doesn’t have contest dates.
Well, right now, Chicago has been having freezing temps. We could certainly do a Freezing Hair day here.
So… Are you in? Do something FUN, win $2,000!

Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada has similar temperatures as Anchorage or Edmonton Alberta, there is a newSpa / Hot springs developed by German investors that is fantastic. Flights come in direct from Frankfurt in the summer months. Lots to see, Klondike Gold Rush, huge gold dredges left over from the old days.

Are you saying there is a Hot Springs in Edmonton too? I’ve never been to a Hot Springs. Sounds like a new adventure awaits.

No hot spring in Edmonton, but Miette Hot Spring is 3 hours west of Edmonton in Jasper National Park, but it is commercialized, but nice

That sounds nice. I’ve heard of great hot springs in Colorado too. Good way to relax…

LOL – Yeah, to win the contest, I think you’d have to have enough hair to do something CREATIVE with it. Would be fun.

So cool, literally. I remember Mom bringing the washing in off the line when I was younger and the blue jeans were solid like plywood. Cheers. Allan

I’m in Chicago, I’ve seen posts on this. People freezing their jeans and trying to save their parking spots by putting the still jeans in the space. REALLY.. but it is funny.

This post me laugh but also intriguing .. it’s funny how people get to do these sort of things without freezing over!

Yes, it’s because they are in the Hot Springs, so when they lift there head out of the water, they are happy to cool off. That’s what I would imagine. Do a search… they’ve had this competition since 2011, lots of unique crazy hair styles.

Okay, that one’s up there on the “weird scale”. At least the water’s warm vs. a polar plunge. No doubt the same could take place in Chicago! That lake-effect cold is indescribable.

No, absolutely no! And that’s Canadian dollar too. So <2000 USD. Not that makes any difference.

When I was a kid my mother sprayed her hair with Aqua Net to cement it into place. I guess this is more like Polar Net – the eco friendly version.

LOL – thanks for making me chuckle. Makes me think of those days when some of the women wore the bee hive hair styles, that needed a lot of hair spray.
