I was in Chicago last week for an appointment. As I was walking down the street, I heard so much noice, bird noise. I’ve always seen pigeons around town on the streets, but never by a dumpster. I was curious.
I quickly pulled out my camera and took these shots. Here’s what I saw:
- #1 Gull watching pigeons.
- #2 Closeup, we see there is a bakery item there.
- #3 Gull makes his move…
- #4 Gull is triumphant! He now has breakfast.
Sometimes we get the FINAL photo just right!! The Gull was determined.
Enjoy your breakfast, while watching out for the Gull!

Gulls are a lot craftier and more direct than pigeons. I have seen a gull swoop down and snatch a donut right out of a person’s hand on Granville Island. It is like they know who the best targets are. Cheers.

LOL, that’s funny! Reminds me of what my twin brother would have done. His pranks were ongoing. 😉

At SeaWorld in San Diego, a gull swooped down and took the wiener out of my daughters hot dog!!

Oh my gosh!!! Now, that is scary. Imagine, that Gull must have been scanning the crowd, and her hot dog looked like an easy capture.

I know. My daughter cried and we had to buy her another hot dog, which we guarded carefully.

Isn’t there(classic)novel where someone is tied up, placed into a river where he can’t move, head out of water, with meat on his head to attract the seagulls? If the birds don’t kill him , the high tide will.
Now I’ll be thinking all day long….

Your photos are fantastic. We have rising numbers of seagulls and pigeons stealing food from members of the public and raiding waste bins in search of food. Seagulls usually become extremely aggressive in the month of August, as their chicks begin to grow but are not yet ready to leave the nest, so you have to watch out for them.

I had no idea! I normally see them around the beach, so have not had an encounter with them, but a few people have commented, as you had mentioned, how they swoop down out of no where to steal food!! If I go to Ireland in August, I’ll remember this. 🌺
