How 6 Million People Read My Blog Post!

Did it work? Did I catch your attention with the 6 Million readers?

I saw an article on the art of blog writing. It mentioned that it helps to use a “number” in the title. Personally, I always steer clear of posts that say, “3 Best Gluten Free Breads,” or “10 Worst TV Shows,” etc. I used to get sucked into those, then realized they were full of “fluff.” WHY, because they got the memo that adding a number to their title would get you readers/followers, so a bit boring, lots of copy cat articles.

I sold advertising for magazines years ago. We had certain issues that used the “number technique.” It did work. Our February Wedding issue focused on the 10 Best Wedding Planners, June would be the 20 Best Dentists, September focused on the 5 Best Senior Centers… You get the idea.

It helped sell advertising. Think about it, were these companies really the BEST or were they the ones willing to pay high advertising rates? This is when I realized, there are a lot of “fake” articles out there.

So, if you want to be an influencer, then you need to write in a certain way.

If, you are like me, and write for enjoyment. Then you write your post, get your coffee, sit back and see who comes. If no one comes, tweak things a bit, then see / hope your numbers soar.

Have fun writing!

  1. At some point in our lives, we all have been idly poking around the web when a headline has caught the eye. We instinctively know that it’s clickbait, but there’s something about ‘15 Celebrities From The 90s That Now Live In Rotherham’ that we simply can’t resist. You know, I find that numbers can help you create compelling headlines, as long as they are specific and relevant. They also provide order and give you a gauge of the value of information. Above all, when you use them in an article title or headline, they work. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. In a rare moment in my blogging history, I had one post that attracted several hundred readers… it also attracted the commenters who were not entirely pleasant. Fortunately I sank back into obscurity shortly after.

    1. I agree with you, unless we crave fame, it’s nice to be in an our small blogging world. At the same time, it is nice to meet new “nice” like minded Bloggers. Like YOU for instance. Thanks for stopping by, nice to meet you. I’ll go visit your site too.

      1. Agree, but it’s hard to meet new bloggers we like, I’m mean what they are writing about. Sometimes I take time to search. After reading, reading, I get exhausted. WP used to have interesting posts on Discover (I think that’s what it’s called.), but now it’s all answers to the silliest writing prompts. Miss the days when Bloggers had their own views on things, those were great posts. Things have changed in 10 years.

      2. Yes, I agree. I think that cancel culture might have made some bloggers more cautious in what they would say. As a Canadian Snowbird living in Arizona right now, I am caught between two worlds of opinion.
I have seen a lot of change in my 15 years of blogging. I do miss the bloggers who I used to chat with in the ‘good old days’!

  3. Interesting topic! It hints at the “clickbait” we see all over social media. Your title starts with “HOW 6 Million People…”, suggesting your blog post will give us the answer to the “how” as long as we read the post. So we’re drawn in. I used to fall for it, including the numbers/lists tease. Then I wondered, “just WHO is claiming to be an authority on a ‘top’ list?” With blogging, anyone can claim to be an authority on anything. With the news media, it’s almost as dicey because there’s no guarantee (anymore) their information is factual.

  4. 6 million readers can’t be wrong? I never knew the number-in-a-title thing, but it makes perfect sense. Now I see my mistake! “240 Candy Cigarettes Later!” for a title and I would have been famous! 🙂
