Happy St Patrick’s Day! I’m prepared. Recently, I was at Notre Dame University and picked up this shirt. Go Irish! Got to wear some green this weekend.
Then in yearly tradition, the Chicago Plumbers Union will dye the Chicago River green on Saturday. I always think of the “The Wizard of Oz” and their Emerald City when I see how green the river gets. It’s BEAUTIFUL!
We really get excited to see them dye the river. YouTube has some videos, you can see the process. There are a lot of Irish folks in Chicago, so it’s a lot of fun. I can’t say that corned beef and cabbage is my favorite meal, but once a year, OK. Lots of Irish beer. Don’t forget to wear some green.
My daughter lived in Ireland for six years. She said that St Patrick’s Day is their biggest holiday.
It’s time to watch “The Quiet Man.” Love that movie.
Have a great weekend. Happy St Patrick’s Day! ☘️
A fun post, thank you. I’ll also be wearing green and singing songs of rebellion. Also love The Quiet Man : when I visited Ireland I walked across the bridge where Sean first spots Mary Kate. Might watch PS I Love You 🍀

With these types of recommendations, I’m adding The Quiet Man to my watch list, thank you! Two very different movies set in Ireland come to mind, Leap Year and The Nephew.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have not seen either of those movies. This is a different one, but I’ve always loved, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

Leap Year is a romcom, The Nephew is a drama that Pierce Brosnan produced (and acts in). May I ask what made you like Seven Brides for Seven Brothers?

“The Quiet Man” – it is my favorite John Wayne movie! Never mind it is also the ONLY John Wayne movie I have ever seen 🙂 Haven’t watched it in years – great way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. I would also love to know WHY we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, at least here in America. Supermarkets and retailers have been promoting the day since the beginning of March, as if some big event is coming, but is wear something green. At least Chicago has a parade, a green river, and a lot of residents with legitimate Irish heritage. Enjoy the party!

… big event is coming, but [all we do down here] is wear something green.

Interesting, they don’t have “anything” in your down town area. A Pub even?

Well and then in 2 weeks it’s Easter! Then they just add some pastel bakery items to the green, done!

We did have an Irish pub in town (they even broadcast Notre Dame football games) but sadly it didn’t last. Not enough patrons seeking corned beef and cabbage, I guess 😉

The Chicago River being dyed green before each St. Patrick’s Day is such an iconic tradition – I’d like to see what it looks like. We are all getting ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day here in Sligo, Ireland as the town parade starts tomorrow at noon. May you find lots of gold at the end of your rainbow. Here’s to a great St. Patrick’s Day! Aiva 🙂 xx

Good reminder! There will be a St. Patricks parade in Lisbon tomorrow, apparently the first ever. I will wear green and go check out 🙂 Happy St. Patrick’s!

It was fantastic! Lots of bagpipers from Spain and all over Portugal. Lots of music and dances.

Fabulous!! It is nice to hear the bagpipers. Kudos to the bagpipers for carrying on the tradition and wearing their kilts too.

Great shirt!
Time to eat Irish soda bread.
I will put The Quiet Man on my list of movies to see.
Blessings!

I am late here, but we did our part with a hearty meal of corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. Sadly, I had to work so they were not washed down with a Guinness this year.
It is funny – my father was 100% Irish on both sides of his family, but I never saw him make any to-do at all about St. Patrick’s day. It has been my wife’s family that has been much more enthusiastic.

That is interesting. Were his parents still alive when you were young? If yes, they would have done something, I would think, but maybe back in their day it wasn’t such a big holiday.
