This weekend I was able to walk by Lake Michigan. We were having strange weather, it had gone from hot summer days earlier in the week to suddenly cooler temps like Fall. You can see a bit of the fury in the Lake.
Some people were swimming, it’s a bit dangerous with waves like this, the undertow is strong. As a child, I loved swimming in waves like this with my friends, it was scary and exciting at the same time. The undertow would suck us under tumbling us around in water and sand.
We held our breath forever hoping we’d get to the surface. Oh and when we did surface, hoped our bathing suit was still on properly. To give you a visual, imagine a dog with a soft play doll, violently shaking the doll in his mouth right and left. That’s how it feels to be in an undertow.
I really liked this photo. It was so windy, I took the photo quickly. I didn’t notice that there was a person in the picture; otherwise, it would have been perfect.

Most people don’t realize that Lake Michigan is really a large body of water. At first glance, you might think it is an ocean. It’s really quite vast.
Here’s to enjoying the last bit of summer. Labor Day is almost here.

Wow! It looks like an ocean! It looks wonderful. thank you for sharing this. Kind regards…Jay😊

So many beautiful photos 🙂 Lake Michigan is a majestic jewel among the Great Lakes and I just love how it offers a playground of diverse experiences that cater to every traveller’s whims and fancies as you can easily go from the bustling cities that fringe its edges to the serene beachfront, historical landmarks, water adventures, and cultural escapades. It has long been on my travel wish list! Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

You wrote a lovely description of our area. I haven’t been to MacKinac Island in Michigan. I keep hearing how lovely it is. Since COVID many people staying close to home and exploring versus traveling abroad. You/your family are great at exploring a lot. 💕

We have been to Lake Michigan and enjoyed it a lot. St. Joe Michigan is a great place to go for a vacation.
I love the photos. They makes me want to be on the beach right now!

It is beautiful by the Lake. I’d like to explore more of Michigan and Wisconsin, drive up toward Canada. A friend/her husband did that recently, so many beautiful areas.

Well, you’ve taught me something: I thought lakes were small bodies of water and always tranquil. Loved this ” fury”. Great photos!

You’re right — It is easily mistaken for an ocean. The Great Lakes are amazing, and hold much of the planet’s fresh water.

Honestly, the first photo looks as tranquil as a tropical island. But of course you speak from experience. The rough-and-tumble of the wave is a worthy warning, because it looks a whole lot calmer than the waves of say, the Pacific Ocean. Those can really roll you!

We live by the Mediterranean sea which I sometimes mistakenly call a lake. it really does look the same! Fab photos.

I’d love to go to Lake Michagan. I dreamed about it once. I’m in the UK and can’t fathom such a big body of water that isn’t an ocean.

If you dreamed about it, then it’s time to come. In the summer there is a big sailboat race from Chicago to Mackinac Island in Michigan. Here’s the island…you’ll see where Chicago is…. https://www.mackinacisland.org/blog/6-ways-to-of-getting-to-mackinac-island-from-chicago/
