I’m BACK… Thank you AerLingus! ☘️

AerLingus sends me promotional deals a few times a week. Normally, I delete them without even a glance. However, back in September, as my father had just passed… I thought, maybe it’s time to go “somewhere.”

One promotion was focused on reduced fares to Europe. I looked and I found a “good deal” to Munich, flying through Dublin. I really enjoy Munich, so I knew being there would lift my spirits.

I enjoy flying AerLingus, they are still clean and orderly when boarding and in flight. I don’t want to bash other airlines, but traveling is not fun anymore. It’s gotten so crazy and chaotic.

Oh, flying is a good time to catch up on movies we haven’t seen. Also, it makes the 7-8 hr flight go by very quickly. I enjoyed this movie, “Wicked Little Letters.” It’s a true story.

Another nice thing about AerLingus is that the flight goes through Dublin, we clear U.S. Customs / Immigration there. So, when we arrive in the U.S., we can immediately head home.

Oh, I smiled at this. When I was in the Munich airport, food choices were healthy sandwiches / big German pretzels. When I got to Dublin, no more sandwiches, instead, a pub and pre-packaged sandwiches (yuck!). The U.S. is the same, hard to find healthy food in an airport. Why is that?

Glad to be home! More to come…

  1. I am sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. I hope you had a great time visiting Munich. I was there are few years ago and had a great time exploring the city.

Flying is not an experience that many of us enjoy, but rather a necessary evil for either work or pleasure. The early starts, the painful security procedures as well as fitting into confined spaces with other tired and cranky humans can be soul-destroying at times. For me though, the most painful part is always the food.

What annoys me the most about the bad food in airports is that it is the last experience you’ll have with a country’s cuisine. The entire holiday might have been a culinary delight, but a soggy sandwich as you depart will stick in your mind. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  2. It’s nice to read a positive review about an airline. We haven’t flown AerLingus since 2012 but I remember the start-to-finish experience being perfectly satisfactory. Not so Frontier, who we just flew last week. Their ploy of trading low fares for added fees and virtually zero customer service completely compromises the travel experience. Never again. U.S. domestic carriers still have much to learn from those of other nations.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about your dad passing. Having lost my mom two years ago, I empathize. Our best flying experience was Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong close to 30 years ago. It was that memorable for the outstanding service.

  4. I’m glad you had a chance to get away. I usually fly KLM for international flights and the food is usually quite good on board and at the airport. I look forward to reading more about your trip.

    1. Thanks for sharing. It’s nice to learn about other airlines, I haven’t flown KLM. As I get reward miles on United, I usually use them / Lufthansa. My daughter studied in Ireland for 5 years, so we started flying AerLingus years ago. I KNOW, I saw you had some nice Door posts, I need to catch up, but then I’m tired, so not sure how far back in blog posts I’ll go. 😉

Now this story about Munich via Ireland has me hungering for a big German pretzel with a Guinness! 🙂
