Are you like me? You’ve seen a mug, you like the design, you’ve bought it, and it works perfectly?!
Well, this is the FIRST time that a mug design has not worked.
I’m curious… without telling you the issue… CAN you see what the problem is?
FYI – I don’t buy mugs often, but now if I do, I will be scrutinizing the mug BEFORE purchase.
Now, off to have a cup of coffee!
Have a great weekend!

The handle on the London mug looks impossible. And, if there’s a criticism to be made of the dog mug, the the handle looks disproportionally light compared to the body, which I imagine would feel a bit unbalanced. It’s quite frustrating when brands prioritized form over function…

Actually, the dog mug’s handle is really good. You’re right, the London mug, while super cute, that round circle makes it so hard to hold the mug without burning your fingers. Haha.. I had never thought how important mug handles are.

These are cute mugs, but the amount of force needed to hold a mug level using a single handle is many times its weight. This generally isn’t a big deal if the handle is a suitable size for the mug body, but that’s why a small handle on a large mug can be so uncomfortable to hold. For someone who loves to cup their hands around a mug, it has to feel good to the touch, work well, and it must be enjoyable to live with over time. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

Hi Aiva, yes, the London mug is so darn cute, but that handle being a small round circle doesn’t allow me to hold it properly. A shame, but I am still using it, just not putting really hot tea in it. LOL Thanks for stopping by. 💕🌺

The one with the dogs wouldn’t work for me because I’m lefthanded. The other one the handle is too small.

Oh, a lefty!! LoL, I never thought about that as an issue. You are right, the London one is too small.

I wonder what the art is like on the other side of the dog mug – maybe it is a left AND right handed mug! (Or is there something else that makes a left handed mug different??? I drink from my mugs with either hand even though I am right handed…)

A lot of mugs have the picture situated so the writing or whatever faces out. I have many that have the decoration on both sides, though. But if it’s inside the cup you have to hold it in your right hand to see it.

It is nice when they have the design on both sides.

Very interesting… I never thought about a lefty. I’ll have to see about that.

The London mug handle is not very practical. It doesn’t support a ful mug of coffee.

Yes, the London one is a smaller mug, which was ok. The real issue is the handle. it’s small and round, so if you try to hold it, your other fingers touch the hot mug, and get burned. I do love the design, it so cute.

I can see the problem too and I see hot coffee going out of the cup and burning you. On the dogs mug, the cup is lopsided, the opening at the top is too narrow and the handle seems off too, like no matter how you hold it, it won’t work with the rest of the cup. You need a straw Monica! The London cup is cute, but the handle is too small for the mug and it has a smaller base than the mug = it may tip. Don’t use either around a computer, or if you are wearing shorts and have bare legs. 🙂

Yikes, you’re right with the wearing shorts. Had not thought about that! 😉

OMG – whenever I hear that I think of the McDonald’s coffee incident years ago…

Yes, remember that and a lot of people said “well. you know it’s going to be hot, so you just be careful.” I think that’s what started all the warnings about hot liquids.

I feel the singe on my fingers just looking at the London mug!

I think we are all agreed that the tiny loop on the UK cup just won’t cut it. I’ll add that it looks like it has a metallic rim–a no-no if you need to heat your tea.

Yes, it’s sad that the loop is so small. But it’s still a cute mug, so I will use it in the summer for cool drinks or snacks (nuts) if people visit. LOL. It was a set… I have Dublin, Milan & Paris too.

Great idea for nuts.

My guesses were confirmed by previous comments. The bigger mug doesn’t look perfectly round (unless the photo is distorted) and the smaller mug looks like you could only support it with a single finger. Not to mention, the smaller mug doesn’t look like it would fit my typical cup of coffee (12 oz). Another issue I have with mugs: the rims can be thick, which causes drips when you’re sipping. It’s the first think I look for in a new mug: thin rim.

You’re right. I recently bought a new pot for cooking. It as that problem, the rim is thicker so when I try to poor water out, it goes all over. NEVER thought of these specifics before, everything had worked. LOL

The first cup looks distorted. I’m not sure how much the distortion effects it’s usefulness to hold hot drinks. The handle of the second is silly 💚

The handle on the London one looks too small for comfort….and the other one looks lopsided?

Mainly, it’s the London one with the handle that’s too small. Round, who with have thought something like that…
