Fall… Pumpkin shopping…

I was looking at the pumpkins and came across these. I have to be honest, they look like they have a lot of warts on them. I don’t find them appealing and feel bad for saying this. Everything has it’s own beauty, right. Still, I thought, there must be a reason they grow like this.

Anyone familiar with these types of pumpkins?

  1. They’re actually bred that way. Pumpkins, apparently, were warty before they were bred to be smooth. However, they can also be a sign of a mosaic infection spread by aphids, according to Gardening Know How.

  2. We bought four pumpkins from the market this year for our front steps, including a little white one, a blackish one, and one looking a little like your warty example. The variety is kind of nice, instead of a typical display of the smooth orange ones.

    1. I know! LOL – I mean, Halloween is supposed to be spooky, scary, but I’m still not drawn to the warty pumpkins. Maybe they will grow on me as there are so many of them this year. 👻 I have a friend from College whose birthday is on Halloween. She’s 60, says she still enjoys Halloween stuff. 😉
