
Recently, I had my annual check up. I heard the dreaded words, “Your cholesterol is high.” I’ve had this situation in the past, so I started researching online how to change my diet.
Salmon always comes up, so beneficial for our health in so many ways. BUT, I don’t like the fishy taste.
So, feeling like a little kid, I thought about how I could change the flavor. I decided to cut the salmon up in cubes, then marinated it in Teriyaki sauce. I’ve always cooked salmon with a little bit of garlic salt on it. Why not try something different. The result is in the photo.
Is the flavor better? Ah, a little, but still very fishy tasting, but more tolerable.
I always find it interesting when going out for dinner with people and they BRAG that salmon is on the menu as if it is the greatest thing to man kind. I tend to prefer white fish or shell fish. I feel like an outsider when they all order salmon and I say, “I don’t really like it.” You should see the horror on their faces!
Then, I remember years ago when I was used to eating white bread. That’s all we had as children. Slowly, I moved to eating healthier breads. First wheat bread, then multi-grain bread, etc. Now, I couldn’t even eat white bread unless it is sourdough bread.
So, won’t the same thing happen with salmon if I keep eating it? I’ll grow to like it???

I’m also not a fan of fishy tastes. I’ve ultimately landed on Carlson cod liver oil with lemon flavoring. A quick sip of fishiness is more palatable than a meal for me haha!

I happen to like salmon. But I also like trout and haddock, whiting too.

My taste buds aren’t nuanced enough to tell much difference between fish. They all kind of taste the same to me and I get funny looks when I say that, too. Oh, well. It’s okay once in a while but I prefer lasagna, lol.

I couldn’t stand salmon growing up because we went salmon fishing all the time. My mom made salmon cakes, salmon loaf, salmon this and that. As an adult I like it because I don’t have to eat it three times a week. Also, different types of salmon taste better than others. I like fresh, wild caught sockeye or king.

Good tip on the different types of salmon out there. I do think each one tastes a little bit different. Some being more fishy tasting.

I had leftover wild caught King salmon for breakfast on toast with cream cheese. Delish!

I ate a lot of seafood as a child – breakfast, lunch and dinner. I cannot look at a left over fish sandwich or even consider cold fish on toast these days. Same with mashed potato. Just the thought makes me feel like throwing up.

I grew up on the water, ate lots of Rock Fish, scallops, oysters, crabs. Anything from sea is an acquired taste. On occasion I’ll take salmon, shred it and mix with cream cheese (did I gross you out?) and eat on crackers.

LOL – I enjoy you eating shell fish, because that I do like. Funny that I don’t mind that fishy taste, but salmon is different. Oh, and no I wasn’t grossed out. It seems like fundraising parties do that with salmon.

While I like salmon (my wife hates it) and trout, my most favorite fish is Tuna. It’s best on bread. She even likes it too.

We watched a special on salmon farming a couple of years ago, and it took a lot of the “taste” out of my one of my favorite foods. Now I’ll only eat salmon when it’s labeled “wild caught”. But the health benefits are undeniable and I think fresh salmon is one of the best tasting fish in the sea.

Cook it with bacon. That solves the taste problem, but maybe not the cholesterol problem …

I am a born and bred midwesterner. My rule has been that cows and pigs and chickens are (or should be) local and fresh. Seafood from any body of water I would consider eating out of is not local or fresh under any set of circumstances. Or maybe it is more honest to say that I just don’t like the taste of seafood.

LOL – I grew up in the Midwest too. We just didn’t eat fish growing up. Well, we went smelt fishing in Lake Michigan. I think we caught trout too, but then we were taught if you swelled a bone, it would go to your heart and kill you. LOL – right there, I didn’t want to eat fish.
