Food: Eating berries are good for us, but…

Ok, I hope I don’t make too many people cringe by saying this, but every time I eat a blackberry, they remind of ants. YES, they look like a group of ants in my mind.

Blackberries are a strange fruit, so many little black balls that pop in your mouth. We had a blackberry tree where I grew up. It was glorious to pick blackberries daily and just munch on them non-stop, fingers turning purple. Of course, there was a mad dash to get to the tree first before siblings / friends ate them.

You probably won’t look at blackberries the same now.

I’m off to eat some more…

      1. They look the same; however, grow differently. I Googled this: Mulberries and blackberries have distinct growth patterns, but some similarities. The main difference to note is that mulberries grow on trees, while blackberries grow on canes that form a bush or shrub.

  1. We have an abundance of blackberry bushes in Sligo that are always laden with yummy berries. You know, technically blackberries are not berries at all. Instead, each fruit is an aggregation of dozens of tiny fruits called drupelets. drupelet • any of the small individual parts containing a single seed that together form a fruit such as a blackberry. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. Aiva, how wonderful to learn the details about blackberries. It certainly makes sense, when I eat them I definitely will think of drupelets now!! I love pulling the blackberries off the bushes, it’s so fun and rewarding. Thanks for sharing that. 💕

  2. I’m not sure why we avoid blackberries, but our craving is consumed by strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries instead. The blackberry boxes are sitting right there beside the others yet we never buy them. Maybe it IS the subliminal image of ants 🙂
