Dog or Cat Bed – Boo…!

Halloween is coming up. Isn’t this great?! I don’t have a dog or cat, but this animal bed looks really cozy. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be so cozy that it would feel too HOT.

I can see a witch arriving home on her broomstick and her black cat jumping in for a nap.

I love when people are creative and funny at the same time!

Hong Kong: Art Installation – Two Rubber Ducks in Victoria Harbour

Hello Fellow Bloggers, in keeping with our rubber duck theme this week. Look what I found. In Hong Kong right now, an art installation by Florentijn Hofman, a Dutch Artist. It’s been 10 years since his first rubber duck visited Hong Kong. This time, two ducks for “Good Luck!”

Hoffman created this Rubber Duck Series in 2007. His ducks have been touring the world. I do remember years ago seeing in the news, the one rubber duck in Hong Kong, and thinking, “What, a HUGE rubber duck?” Now, there are two.

Visit WION’s (The World is One News) YouTube video to see the ducks zooming around Victoria Harbour. It’s fun!

So, what do you think? Are you smiling?

Great advertising – Pain for Sale…

My friend and I were driving in the car this weekend when she burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny,” I said, keeping my eye on the road.

“THIS sign for tattoos,” she said.

Luckily, she took a quick photo, so I could see it. She really had good eye sight. From a distance, you have to squint your eyes to read the sign. I zeroed in, so you could see it better.

What a clever advertising idea. Tattoos are painful.

Having worked in advertising for a long time, I really enjoy seeing “humorous” signs.

This one was a WINNER! Now to find out, does it bring in business?

Antique Shopping

This weekend I was driving home from Michigan and I saw an Antique Shop. It was on the other side of the road, I had to make one of those “quick” decisions. Stop or keep going. I decided to take the extra time, stop in.

Glad I did. I found this painting. I really liked the vibrancy of the blue color of the lake with sailboats. There were a lot of interesting things to see.

Some booths had such old things. I immediately thought of a movie set director needing some props for a WWII movie or something like that.

Antique shops are interesting by area too. What you find in Indiana would be different from California, Texas or New York for example.

An enjoyable outing.

McDonald’s – HAPPY MEAL for ADULTS!?

I can’t stop smiling. A Happy Meal (with a toy) for Adults?? This was a clever marketing idea and right before the Holidays. I want one and I haven’t eaten at McDonald’s for years, but don’t we ALL want to feel like a kid again?! I do!

McDonald’s partnered with an apparel company called, “Cactus Plant Flea Market.” That name helps with the marketing too. I mean, WHAT IS —> Cactus Plant Flea Market?? I had to look it up. They sell online contemporary fashion street clothing.

For this Happy Meal campaign, they‘ve created a lot of FUN McDonald focused art designs. The clothing is a bit expensive though. A shame, because the designs make me smile.

Here are some of the apparel choices. More to see on the CPFM/McDonald’s website.

The UK is furious that these Adult Happy Meals are ONLY offered in America. I got to say, I would be too, especially if I was a McDonald’s fan. Why are the Americans having so much fun! I WANT A TOY TOO!

So, what do you think? Will you head out for a Happy Meal?

Chicago – NEW Chinatown Mural – Rich Lo

I happened to catch NBC 5 Chicago news recently and this segment by Vi Nguyen caught my attention. An amazing mural by Chicago artist Rich Lo. For this mural, he chose three famous Opera characters commonly seen in Cantonese opera. They are legendary warriors. Lo’s father was a rising star in the Chinese Opera. He saw his father perform on stage, so this is close to his heart.

The Chinese American Museum of Chicago donated this wall for the mural which is in the parking lot. What is also interesting is that Rich Lo went to grammar school across the street from the site of the mural. Fate / destiny at work when he was a child. Interesting how life works, right!

This is such a special tribute to his Chinese culture and family legacy to create this beautiful work of art! I’m excited about this.

It’s time for me to head to Chinatown and see this mural in person!

Who likes Jigsaw Puzzles?

I haven’t done a jigsaw puzzle in a while. I hadn’t even thought of doing one, just busy with “other things.” So, I smiled when I saw this puzzle on the Clearance rack.

My first thought, the children’s book, “The Princess and the Pea.” What a cute idea to have a cat on top of a bunch of beautiful pillows. I love bright colors, so was attracted to this immediately. Another attraction was the size being rectangular versus square. I found that to be a challenge.

One thing though, the measurements. At 39 inches long, it takes up quite a bit of space on a dining table in an awkward way. A little bit shorter would have been better, but I don’t think puzzle makers take that into consideration. They are creators, right. They do what is visually appealing, leave technical issues to the puzzle maker purchaser. Fall in love with a puzzle and we can make it work!

Size aside, I’m looking forward to doing this puzzle. I smile every time I look at it. It’s just so colorful!

So, the BIG QUESTION — Do I start in the middle, do the border or the CAT FIRST??

Ah… the puzzle maker’s challenge!

Artists – Portrait Competition

If you are looking for an interesting show to watch and love art, you’ll like this one on Amazon Prime: Portrait Artist of the Year. It’s a great show. Apparently, it came out in 2013. How in the heck did I miss this show? Maybe because it’s been on Sky TV.

If you haven’t seen the show, each episode has three famous sitters. There are four portrait artists per sitter. They have four hours to paint the portrait. Once completed, the sitter chooses one of the portraits to bring home. After that, the three judges review ALL of the portraits and they choose a winner. They have competitions in a few different cities, a winner from each. THEN the four finalists come together to paint another portrait. The person who wins the FINAL competition, gets paid a commission to paint another famous/well known person. As you see, a lot of painting is going on.

PHEW – I hope you get the premise of the show. It’s really amazing. One sitter and four artists have such different approaches to painting their portrait. Love this show, so inspiring!

The weekend is here, you’ll be hooked. I see binge watching in your future!

A Sheep & Wool Festival

Since we can’t travel very far, suddenly we are exploring our area. Someone told me about a Sheep & Wool Festival in Wisconsin. I went, it was FUN. They had a lot of sheep and some goats too.

Here is one of the sheep, I caught him while he was eating. He was kind enough to pose, so perfectly for me. They sold yarn and wool for felting. I’ve never heard of felting. I do knit, but haven’t for a while, so it was fun to see what shawls, hats, socks and scarf patterns were out there. Also, I was amazed at how many sheep farms there are in the U.S.

I found this lovely sheep painting. As soon as I saw it, I smiled. Isn’t that a good determining factor for making a purchase?!

So, I leave you with thoughts of sheep. If you are having trouble sleeping at night, we are told to count sheep. Here you have two, just keep it going… and SOON you will be FAST ASLEEP!

I’m looking forward to exploring a pumpkin patch next!

ART NEWS – SOLD – World’s Largest Painting, $62M, Dubai Auction

When I say, “world’s largest painting,” I mean Guinness World Record. Imagine 17,000 sq ft equivalent to 2 football fields or 4 basketball courts of art. That’s a lot of work. “The Journey of Humanity” consists of 70 art panels.

This is a fabulous story of Sacha Jafri, British Artist, who took advantage of COVID lockdown in Dubai to create a painting that would raise money for charity (disadvantaged children specifically). What is really wonderful and inspiring is that he included children’s art from around the world into his painting. His goal was to raise $30 million, he doubled that raising $62 million.

Crypto businessman Andre Abdoune from France purchased the entire painting. Abdoune plans to build a museum for this painting. So happy to hear this, because the painting as a whole tells a story of COVID, lockdown, children suffering, etc. It should be seen as “one” piece.

I’m not an art expert, so glad by chance I came upon this article. I wish the media would share MORE stories like this. It proves there is more LOVE than hate in this world. Do away with the negative media and our world would start to work together and flourish.

I look forward to hearing more about Sacha Jafri in the future!
